Change the channel!

Another way to help you tune in to a brighter season any time of year!
Remember those times driving your car. The radio is on. You haven’t really been paying attention. Suddenly a song comes on that you don’t like. What do you do? Turn down the volume or switch off the radio. Pop in a CD of your favorites, choose a different playlist, or change the channel.
This is how you can switch out of negative, fearful thoughts and scenarios and into the joy you seek. Think about it: we do it all the time. Turn off the program, return the wrong order, toss the unwanted ads from our mailbox. So let’s do it with internal input as well. When a negative pops up or has been playing too long in your head, switch channels. Change your thoughts to something more positive: happy memories; joyful scenes, sounds, and activities; a better outcome. You get the idea! Switch it up! It’s one of our superpowers, and if you’re not used to it, it will take some practice.
How?
It can help to add a physical gesture with the switch, for example: physically mimic the gesture of tuning to another station or flipping off the switch. You can also tap your forehead, flick your finger like you’re flicking off a crumb from the table, or give your ear a tug all with the intention of letting go of any worrisome thoughts or shutting down negative input. Example of action paired with words: Flick off the worry and say “Everything works out for the best” or “I welcome joy.” Bonus action: put your hand over your heart and breathe joy in and out.
Reminders
Try any of these to stay on that positive track so the old habits don’t sneak up on you or stay as long.
Set a timer on your phone or put up some notes to remind you to check in with how you’re feeling. Flip a switch as needed.
Wear a reminder, like a ring or bracelet, but wear it on a different finger or wrist so you’re more aware of its presence.
Set out an object that makes you smile.
Put up sticky notes… everywhere. Use life-affirming words or images that mean something to you, like: Stay positive. Think happy thoughts. Smiley faces…
Here’s one I do everyday: I have a reminder alert on my phone to set my intention for the day. When it goes off (7:00 am) I stop and think about what I want to feel for the day. Confidence in what I’m doing, trust in the process, joy everywhere, sharing kindness. Endless possibilities for positive results.

Your mind is an obedient servant waiting for your command. Give it positive instructions because, when you do, it searches out positive results.
It’s not magic but it is kind of magical.
